Application
Barium sulfate powder can be used in many applications
Barium Sulfate looks like a white or yellowish odourless powder or small crystals. It is insoluble in water, dilute acids, alcohol but it is soluble in hot concentrated sulphuric acid. It is used as a weighting mud in oil-drilling, in paints, paper coatings, linoleum, textiles, rubber.
Barium sulfate is the most important raw material for coatings. It has high complementarity and it can be applied to all coatings series. It is specialized with low specific surface area and diameter of division and fast flowing nature so it makes barium sulfate in polishing processes with low wear. It supports for atomic primer surface layer. It comes with an excellent dispersibility, rheology, abrasion resistance, and chemical stability.
Barium sulfate powder can be used in many applications such as for coating, painting, plastic, and paper. They are in three categories: precipitated barium sulfate, modified precipitated barium sulfate, superfine barium sulfate. This categorization is mainly for some specific purpose depends on the application needs.
Papers:
Barium sulfate offers specific advantages in the manufacture or high-quality coated papers and it provides a significant improvement in gloss, surface smoothness, and printability.
Plastics:
Barium sulfate has unique features so that it is widely used in plastic products for improving the wear resistance of plastics, anti-aging, improve the luminous effect, and expand the application of plastic products.
Paintings:
Barium sulfate has strong chemical inertness, good stability, acid and alkali resistance, insolubility in water, water, ethanol, organic solvents, moderate hardness, high whiteness, high gloss and the ability to absorb the harmful X-ray, etc. It is some special kind of material with environmental protection function. This is the reason for using them in paints.
