Application
Why is titanium dioxide superior to other white pigments in ink additives?
As a pigment additive, the status of titanium dioxide in the ink is irreplaceable, because titanium dioxide is far superior to other white pigments in terms of several main properties that determine the quality of the ink. Such as refractive index, color reducing power, hiding power and oil absorption, etc., in terms of the refractive index comparison of white pigments, titanium dioxide has obvious advantages.
Under the same conditions, the refractive index of rutile titanium dioxide is 2.76, the refractive index of anatase titanium dioxide is 2.55, the refractive index of zinc sulfide is 2.37, the refractive index of lithopone is 1.84, and the refractive index of lead white is 2.00. On the one hand, titanium dioxide also shows better performance than other white pigments.
The relative value of the decoloring power of rutile titanium dioxide is 100, the relative value of the decoloring power of anatase titanium dioxide is 77, the relative value of the decoloring power of zinc sulfide is 40, the relative value of the decoloring power of lithopone is 16, and the relative value of lead white is reduced. The relative value of color power is 9; in terms of hiding power, the advantages of titanium dioxide make it difficult for other white pigments to match.
The relative hiding power of rutile titanium dioxide is 100, the relative hiding power of anatase titanium dioxide is 78, the relative hiding power of zinc sulfide is 39, the relative hiding power of lithopone is 18, and the relative hiding power of lead white is 12.
From the oil absorption per 100 grams of white pigment, the oil absorption of rutile titanium dioxide is 25 grams, the oil absorption of anatase titanium dioxide is 30 grams, the oil absorption of zinc sulfide is 15-25 grams, and the oil absorption of lithopone is 25 grams. The oil absorption is 14-16 grams, and the oil absorption of lead white is 8-15 grams. It can be seen that the oil absorption of titanium dioxide is also the best.
In the finished ink, the four key properties of refractive index, color reducing power, hiding power and oil absorption support the quality of the ink, and titanium dioxide has the refractive index, color reducing power, hiding power and oil absorption that other white pigments cannot achieve. Therefore, titanium dioxide is more suitable as an ink additive than other white pigments.
